Number 5 - Minnesota Golden Gophers

This hockey program has produced a lot of good NHL hockey players. They have two Hall of Famers (Bob Johnson and john Mariucci); eight all-star players (Phil Kessel, Erik Johnson, Paul Holmgren, Neal Broten, etc.); and 118 NHL players have come for the Golden Gophers. Statistically, the Golden Gophers are a surprisingly good team. They have won nineteen regular season championships and sixteen conference championships. They have also won five NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) championships out of their thirty-nine appearances.

Why they are number 5

The Golden Gophers are a wonderful team, but they do not have the same level of play that the rest do. They are not as strong physically; they are slower moving up and down the ice and passing is inconsistent and not crisp all the time. They do not have as many championships as Michigan has won nine. The rest of the schools in the NHL in the past and present. In general, Minnesota is a good school but not the best
